Imagine being told, “You’re making a positive difference in the community, but we’re going to cut your budget by 40%.” That’s the challenge that AWOL,Inc. (All Walks of Life) was faced with in the fall of 2009. Every year this organization serves more than 100 youth in Savannah through arts and technology-based programs during the hours when they are most vulnerable – after school and at night.
Once we found out, we couldn’t stand by and do nothing. So with AWOL’s permission we created the 2K Strong campaign to help recruit 2000 people to give $100 annually to cover their operational costs. The campaign featured profiles of young people whose lives had been changed through AWOL’s programs, and included a traditional mailer, an email campaign, digital billboards, a website and a social media campaign. Once it was up and running we handed the reins over to the organization.
