Relaunch an existing conference brand after a two year hiatus. We were already huge fans of Geekend, an annual gathering of designers, geeks and makers, so when the new organizers approached us about launching a new website for the event, we were happy to dive in, despite knowing it would be a nail biter to hit the deadline.
Thankfully, we had some great starting assets from the agency that previously designed for the conference. We gathered the assets that could be reused and created a similar but updated look for the overall brand touch points including the website design. Given the tight window for launch we were able to apply our existing knowledge to the event, working almost independently on strategy, content, design and implementation, and relying on quick client reviews at key milestones before surging ahead. We built in the capability for the site to adapt as the schedule of the event was fully developed, speakers were added and a collection of archival information was unearthed.
Once the conference was in full swing, the website became the go-to source for schedule information and updates. Anticipating this use of the site as the primary reference for attendees, we planned for responsive functionality from the start ensuring that the site was optimized for the best experience on mobile devices.
