Take a tradition, do something silly, indulge ourselves a little, challenge ourselves a lot.
What we did:
We saw this as our a chance to do a totally rad throw-back to our childhoods via some custom 3D View-Masters. There was just always something really compelling about them, and the urge to pop them up to your face was almost irresistible. With all the nostalgia attached, we felt this would be an instant smile-maker even for grown-ups.
And what better to showcase through the all-immersive lens of the View-Master than a movie. But, since that was beyond the capability of this analog antique we turned our attention to the idea of classic movie posters.
We started by developing ideas for how we’d put a spin on said posters. Sticking to our ridiculous mission of educating others about unknown (and made-up) aspects of the holidays, we set out to create the perfect 3D key art for our holiday movie collection. We wanted a theme we could weave throughout the posters and decided upon another classic…the song “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”. The beginning of that ditty became the perfect casting for our line-up of lead characters.
All that was left to do was set the scenes in three dimensional layers.
Dasher’s got some new sleighs with way more than horsepower.
Dancer AND Prancer rein in the rink.
Vixen’s in the hot seat while 400 million children wait for the truth.
Comet stars as one reindeer. Ironically named. Heroically challenged.
Cupid (of course)
Donner carries a weapon. Blitzen is one.
And Rudolph in… The Shining. Get it…? Because of the nose?
And finally we pulled it all together in sequence and let the magic unfold in glorious 3D.
Grown-ups were tickled, kids were delighted. Mission accomplished!
Here’s a little glimpse of it IRL (in real life).
Someone pass the popcorn please!
