Quirk Books, of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies fame, asked our friends at MadGENIUS to come up with a trailer for their latest release, Night of the Living Trekkies. They asked us to create branding, the “biological-experiment-gone-awry” opening sequence, motion graphics throughout the trailer, set pieces, and visual effects.
We started with the elements that would be necessary for the live action shoot, which included branding for a Comic Con-style event and the typical printed banners common to conferences of that nature. Once the shoot was underway we started on the biology sequence, sourcing a ton of disgusting virus-y images and combining them with imaginative After Effects magic. We then incorporated them into live action footage, to create that “we’re all gonna die!” vibe. The final steps once the shoot wrapped were to apply some VFX action to turn an average-looking convention center into a scene of mass carnage and destruction! It was a really fun project to be a……braaaaiiinnnsss!!!!!
Some of the comments from the 210,000+ plus viewers:
“ok, someone needs to start a petition to get this made as a movie.”
“I want… nay, NEED this as a movie!”
“God I hope this book gets turned in to a movie.”
“I would pay good latinum to see this as a movie!”
What fanboy trailer would be complete without some inside jokes. This one flashes on the screen really quickly.
